Hi All,
I am building a 2 node cluster for BizTalk 2008 and this is my first time for 2008...I am so confused I'm dizzy...I just have some very basic questions.
I have 2 servers lets call them A & B, where A is also the virtual. As I understand it, A will be actively running BAM - active and B will run MSGBOX - active
When I add the nodes to each I would be adding other instance correct? So in other words, on A - BAM I would add the node as MSGBOX and on B -MSGBOX I would add the node BAM?
1. Do I need to load SQL Server first with named instance on each node of cluster?
2. Do I get on One box, load SQL Server then run setup for Failover Cluster?
3. Do I need to run SQL Server setup fully on 2nd node then run add a node?
Please help, I am running out of time!

So you want an active-active cluster with an instance running on each node? You are basically going to install SQL four times, once for instance BAM on node1, once for instance MSGBOX on node1, then add node2 to instance BAM and add node2 to instance MSGBOX. You then use cluster administrator to control which node runs which instance.

Yes that is exactly what I want to do...Active/Active...Ok thank you very much for your help...
As I understand it then...I would load instances, 1 on each box...Then go to one box and run set up Failover cluster...Then go to other box w/ instance installed and just run add a node from setup?
Thanks again for your help,

You would setup clustering first. Install SQL on node 1 as first part of clustered node. Separate selection in setup. Then go to setup on the second box and select "add node"
The clustering setup is part of SQL Server setup, not something to run later.

So in an effort to start with a fresh clean install, I uninstalled everything and now have an instance on the failover cluster that I cannot get rid of...Everything I try is failing...I have to deliver this today. Can anyone help me thru this?
I am using Windows Server 2008, it has been clustered (along w/ MSDTC) and the failover works nicely.
I try to install the SQL cluster which should have been simple enough...but there were a few differences between 05 clustering and 08...
Now I have an instance that I cannot get rid of...Can anyone get me to a point where I can start a fresh install or at least add my 2 nodes?
Thanks in advance,
Aurora

OK, I was able to run repair, then successufully remove the node...So I am back at stage one. Thanks for all your assistance...I'm sure I'll be back.:-D

So i think i have a cluster set up on each node..
Node A-- i have a BAM instance (manual)
Node B --I have MSGBOX. (manual)
...But how is that active/active...I expected to see a running instance of msgbox w/ manual instance of BAM and on other node a running instance of BAM w/ a manual instance of MSGBOX so it looks like
Node A-- i have a BAM instance (manual) -MSGBOX running
Node B --I have MSGBOX. (manual) - BAM running
How do I achieve this?
Also I typed in the virtual server db name incorrectly can this be rectified after setup?
Your help is greatly appreciated, I feel like I am close but no cigar.
