2005 PASS Community Summit

  • Hi,

Has anyone been to one of these conferences?  I am considering going but wanted to hear people's opinions before spending the money.  They sound very beneficial from reading the site but i would be intersested to know opinions of anyone that has attended before.

    Thanks

  • As far as I am concerned, PASS is the best SQL Server conference to spend your money on. Whether or not you will find it beneficial is of course impossible to answer. I find that the networking part, plus (or maybe including?) the face-to-face meetings with Microsoft's SQL Server team, is what is the best part. The sessions vary, many of them are too much overview-style for me, but there are always a couple of great 300-level or otherwise interesting sessions that seem to fill the days. If you do not want to spend your eductaional budget on boring MOC courses, PASS is where to spend it.

  • Thanks this is really helpful, i am just keen to hear people's opinions that have attended.

  • I'd like to reiterate what Chris said. PASS is the largest and best conference dedicated to SQL Server. This year should be especially exceptional with the upcoming release of SQL Server 2005. I would expect some outstanding sessions on a lot of the new functionality in SQL 2005. It's also always fun to see what all of the vendors are doing and accept some free shwag. Last year was my first PASS and will definitely attend all future conferences.

  • I went to PASS last year and it was definately worthwhile.  I would be going this year but phb thinks its somebody else's turn to get a trip.  I thought they should send both of us, because I was exhausted trying to get to as many sessions as possible.  And for every session I went to, there was amost always another going on simultaneously that I also wanted to see.  But they don't want to try to survive for a week with both DBAs out of town.
