I'm using the new subplans and "Manage Connections" features in 2005 maintenance plans to centralize my maintenance tasks for all of my sql servers in one maintenance plan and on one server in order to optimize management.
(I am currently the only DBA for about 24 sql instances and 300+ databases so most of my sql strategies contain a scenario where "I get hit by a bus" and someone with only a passing knowledge of sql has to figure out what I've done.)
My problem is that I have not been able to successfully incorporate my few remaining 2000 databases into this scenario. Specifically backups of a 2000 database by a 2005 maintenance plan give me the error "cannot find stored procedure master.dbo.xp_Create_subdir".
Am I trying to do something that can't be done? I have yet to find any specific information dealing with this.

Like the error implies, there is no xp_create_subdir in SQL 2000.
You're pretty much asking for trouble trying to get SQL 2005 maintenance plans working with 2000 servers, especially given how they are implemented in 2005.

USe SQL 2000 MPs to create Mps for those databases don't use 2005 servers as you will land in trouble.
