2005 License Info

  • Once you have a done an install, is there a way on a SS 2005/Win 2003 server to tell if you did the install CAL or per seat? (The serverproperty doesn't work - it says "DISABLED" or something like that.) In other words, do you have to do that on the Windows side? Or can you tell by looking at something in the registry?

My boss is asking if I did an install per seat or per processor and I can't remember for sure!

  • If you take a look at this MSDN post:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlblog/archive/2006/11/10/tracking-license-information-in-sql-2005.aspx

It looks like "disabled" is the only thing you'll see from the licensing server property unless you manually update your registry. So basically you have to go back to your licensing agreement to see what you payed for. (from the post "...having paper license tracking (which is the current method in SQL 2005)")
