2005 Enterprise Ed Transaction Log Backup and 2005 Std Ed Transaction Log Restore

  • Can you restore a transaction log from an enterprise sql server 2005 database to a standby database that is located on a sql server 2005 standard edition sql server?

Is there is an internal difference between an 2005 enterprise transaction log backup when restoring to a 2005 standard edition database?

I have a customer that doesn't have money and wants me to find a server for their production database. I was able to find a server that 2005 Enterprise Edition installed with plenty of memory and plenty of disk space.

Now I am trying to find a 2005 standby sql server that can be used as a backup/failover server. I have found one however the only difference is it is a standard edition installation. Can I take a transaction log from an enterprise edition database and restore it to a standard edition database?

  • Yes. If you are using any SQL Server 2005 EE features, you won't be able to modify those objects on the SE, iirc what I have read.
