100% CPU on SSAS 2008r2 AFTER Cube Processed

  • Summed up in the title - afer I process a cube of around 500mb in size which takes about 2.5 mins, the processor usage spikes at 100% and stays there for about 10 minutes. It first hits 100% when the cube is almost completed the processing of the cube, and then remains there.

The process active is the msmdsrv.exe file.

Has anyone experienced this themselves? Any suggestions?

  • I have resolved this. When I say resolved, I mean i now understand why.

I had LazyAggregations enabled, on a lowspec virtual box which runs the entire Bi stack. While I understand Lazy Aggs is supposed to be more CPU efficient, the box performance is reasonably poor and Lazy Aggs is causing increased CPU time and reliance.

Thought it might be interesting for you to know if in a similar situation.
