•The use of SQL Cluster Server will reduce the recovery period in the event of a database server loss. ?

  • we are considering implementing a SQL 2005 cluster for one of our applications. my question is, lf head office went bang, would i need to have a cluster server in the Disaster Recovery site or will a standalone SQL server suffice?

  • There are a number of options available with respect to DR. Clusters are more commonly used for HA within the same site although I've seen implementations for DR as well - a bit more complex as the VLAN needs to be bridged across the WAN. Database mirroring, transactional replication, log shipping are other alternatives. Evaluate your business requirements, network topology, SAN topology, etc. to determine what best meets your needs.
