I've never been to Las Vegas. At least I've never been in the city; I have flown through the airport, stopping only long enough to change planes. That's typically been enough for me since I'm not much of a gambler. I spent a weekend in Laughlin and managed to play nickel Keno and even win a few dollars.
However that changes this November when SQL Connections is being held on Nov 9-12 in Las Vegas. I've always supported the PASS Summit, and wondered how SQL Connections was run, but never attended. This year SQLServerCentral negotiated its own track at the show, with us supplying the speakers.
You can see our track on the sessions page, and we've got Brad McGehee, Joe Celko, Brian Kelley, Grant Fritchey, and myself speaking at various sessions throughout the week. If you are one of the people that typically attends this show, you'll finally get the chance to meet a number of the well known authors from SQLServerCentral.
Many managers frown on shows in Las Vegas, likely because they expect people will spend more time gambling and drinking than learning. While I'm sure that happens, my bet is that most of you are extremely professional. With training budgets shrinking and the chance to learn from our great authors, as well as Kim Tripp, Paul Randal, Adam Machanic, and more, I'm sure you'll be sure to take advantage of the time by watching as many sessions as you can.
That was always my plan when I attended and event, with the goal of bringing back something useful that would help with my job. I hope you attend with that same goal in mind, and I look forward to meeting some new people in Las Vegas this fall.
