Time to Upgrade from SQL Server 2005 SP2 and SQL Server 2008 RTM

,

Microsoft’s Bob Ward posted to remind everyone that SQL Server 2005 SP2 support ends on January 12, 2010, and SQL Server 2008 RTM support ends on April 13, 2010. This means you need to get on SQL Server 2005 SP3 or SQL Server 2008 SP1. If I was still running on SQL Server 2005 SP2 or SQL Server 2008 RTM, I would go ahead and get on the most current CU while I was at it.

The most current Cumulative Update (CU) for SQL Server 2005 SP3 is CU7, which is Build 4273. The most current CU for SQL Server 2008 SP1 is CU5, which is Build 2746.  I have had very good luck staying current on CUs as they come out, but you should always look at the list of fixes to see whether any of them look relevant to your situation.
