A recent article in the PASS Connector called out some interesting stats about SQLSaturday for 2011 and 2012. I’m including the chart here, I encourage you to read the full post.
I see two good stories in those numbers. First is continued and steady growth in the US, going from 32 events to 39. Still not quite the one per state I’d like to see, but I’ll take steady and sustainable any day. Second is the international growth – just incredible. I worry about sustainability, but I also recognize it as green field with lots and lots of opportunity.
Growth is definitely faster with an evangelist on staff, and may go faster when a second is added. For all that, cities come to this in their own time. When the right person is in the right place at the right time it will happen. Our job – collectively – is to tell people they can do it, and then wait for good things to happen.
