It’s the first Monday of September and it’s time to check up on your SQL Servers.  In truth, it’s the second Monday, but for my peers here in the United States, it’s the first Monday workday of the month.  The end result, though, is this reminder post is coming a week later than usual for most of you.  Fortunately, if you’ve been monitoring and checking up on your environment on a week to week basis, that shouldn’t present a problem.

But what if you haven’t been checking your environment, what then?  Well, you’re in a special group I like to refer to as “people that like working on vacations”.  Why’s that you might ask?  That’s because, the chances of something going bad, or a call coming in for you do have to work on your vacation, is much larger when you have no idea what is going on.  Get a checklist and find out what’s going on.

If you don’t already have your own checklist, check out the SQL Server Monthly Checklist that I provide on this blog. It covers most everything that should be checked. If you see anything missing from that list, please leave a comment on this post.  And if there are good resources out there that should be included on the list – share those as well.

Checklist Updates

There are just a couple changes to the checklist since last month, these updates include:

• Added cumulative update for SQL Server 2012 RTM
• Added cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 SP2
