Although, I'm not attending PASS this year, I have been keeping my ear close to the ground of the SQL Server Community.
Microsoft has long ago started on project named Denali, codename of MS SQL Server 2011.
Microsoft actually started working on the next version of MS SQL Server, the data platform before releasing the MS SQL Server 2008 R2 version.
SQL Server code-named 'Denali' helps empowers organizations to be more agile in today’s competitive market. Customers will more efficiently deliver mission-critical solutions through a highly scalable and available platform. Industry-leading tools help developers quickly build innovative applications while data integration and management tools help deliver credible data reliably to the right users and extended managed self-service BI capabilities enable meaningful insights.
With SQL Server code-named 'Denali' customers will benefit from the following added investments:

As PASS Summit 2010 is very much under way, Ted Kummert, Senior Vice President, Business Platform Division at Microsoft, is set to give the Keynote very shortly, and is expected to announce the release of CTP 1, Denali.

As senior vice president of the Business Platform Division (BPD) within the Microsoft Server and Tools Business at Microsoft Corp., Ted Kummert is responsible for leading the product strategy and development of an integrated application platform - including database and application servers, cloud services, and data programmability and modeling technologies.
Products delivered by BPD include Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Azure, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Windows Server AppFabric and Windows Azure platform AppFabric, Windows Communication Foundation, and Windows Workflow Foundation.
