Was just doing my more or less weekly update on LinkedIn and saw that – finally – just hit 500 connections. Growth has definitely been slower over the past few months as I think I’ve captured most of the people I know, now I need to work more on meeting new people. The number itself isn’t the goal, but it’s a useful metric to see if I’m continuing to put effort into building my network.
Not long ago I was chatting with Kendal Van Dyke about LinkedIn and he didn’t realize that they support vanity URL’s. They don’t make it obvious, and even searching for it doesn’t see to always get you there, so for those that want to give it a try, here’s the directions as of today:
- Sign in to LinkedIn
- Click on Edit My Profile
- On the top right of the Edit My Profile Page, click on Edit Public Profile Settings
- Your Public Profile URL is the first item, click Edit and hope you have an usual name!
I changed mine as part of the effort to document the steps, if you would like to connect me (or just read my profile), you can find me at http://www.linkedin.com/in/sqlandy.
