Write this down… No really… Write it, print it, send it to all of your friends and loved ones. J All kidding aside, I believe this to be a good quote to remember! There are many variations out there of this saying, but this is one version that I really like.
“It's an OPPORTUNITY! Not an OBSTACLE!”
I have been a firm believer in the power of perception and the attitudes that one has toward certain situations. Whether it is the seemingly daunting task of cleansing the data in a 12 terabyte database, painting the house, taking out the trash, picking up your dogs “movement” or even looking for a new job, it is how you look at the situation that has such a critical effect on its outcome. If you look at a situation negatively, then the outcome is sure to be less than optimal. However, if you look at it from a more positive perspective, the outcome is more than likely going to be favorable. It’s all about the perspective in which you choose to see the situation!
To further illustrate this point; do you remember the spoon scene in The Matrix? Where the boy looked as if he was bending a spoon and Neo was wondering how he was doing it?
The boy stated, “Do not try and bend the spoon. That’s impossible. Instead…only try to realize the truth.” Then Neo says, “What truth?” The boy replies “there is no spoon…Then you’ll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself”!

Well, when you come upon what you believe to be an obstacle, just remember the title of this post. It's an OPPORTUNITY! Not an OBSTACLE! It is an opportunity for you to prove to yourself that you can do it. It is an opportunity to show others that “it” can be done. So the next time that you have to paint the house, don’t look at is in a negative fashion. Think of it as you are creating your own personal masterpiece like painting the Sistine Chapel. You’ll be sure to have a little more fun than if you are dreading it. J
