Endorsing Andy Warren

,

OK, I'm biased. I'll admit it and you have every right to discount my endorsement, but I'll make the case anyway.

In the interests of disclosure, Andy Warren is a longtime business partner of mine. We started SQLServerCentral together with Brian Knight in 2001, End to End Training in 2006, and we purchased JumpstartTV this year. We've known each other, been friends, and talk almost every week on the phone.

That being said, I'll also note that while I feel a little obligated to endorse Andy, my business interests would be better served if Andy were not on the board since it will take time and focus away from the companies.

However, I think Andy would be a great fit for PASS. In all the years I've known Andy, we have debated the benefits and issues of PASS many times. We've worked with PASS on the conference promotions and we started the SQL Server Standard with them. We have always had their best interest at heart and tried to offer suggestions along with our complaints. In doing so, I've learned quite a bit from Andy about how a good organization should run. As we talk about the things we'd like to see, I'm more like the traditional geek in that I look to improve or change things while Andy questions the underlying assumptions and situations. He's a broad, lateral thinker that doesn't get too caught up in the current "box" that PASS is in. Something that does happen to me.

Andy has the best interests of the community at heart as well. He started the SQLSaturday franchise and donates his time at various speaking events. He is generous with his thoughts, knowledge and time in trying to help others, and he's focused on the SQL Server community. I'm not sure what else you need to do in order to be a good fit for the board of PASS.

So this week cast your vote for Andy.
