I attended the Business of Software a couple months ago and really enjoyed the conference. I wrote a series of posts on the various speakers (Business of Software tagged posts) and found myself really inspired by the event.

Since then I've been trying to focus a bit more on business and I've spent some time writing about various aspects of business. Bootstrap is one that I started back in September and didn't finish for a month, working on it a bit here and there as I thought about the various aspects of building a startup. I finally had a bit of a breakthrough as I found an article that talked about some ways you can get a business started.

Building a business is challenging,it's hard work, but it can be very exhilirating as well. IT's the chance to create something, and I think many people would enjoy that, though there are definitely a lot of aspects of running a business that you might not want to do. Things like accounting, cleaning the office, buying supplies, and more are definitely the less glamorous side of a business.

I wanted to encourage people to make the leap if they want to. The idea of this editorial was to show that I didn't have the confidence or the dream when I was younger, but now that I've been through it, I almost wish that someone like me had tried to motivate me a bit more to think about trying. Maybe I'll motivate someone else to try and grow their own business with these writings.   

Why did I write this? I got challenged by Andy Warren

to write a bit about why I wrote something. I complained to him that he

has some "mechanical" posts on this blog that just mention he wrote

something with some questions, and don't really blog about why he wrote

something. He challenged me to write about why I wrote something, so

here I am.
