After nearly a year of work, starting with the proposal that I finished writing in a hospital last year the book is finished and off to be published and due to be available October 20th. It has been a long year trying to maintain my volunteer work and write a book but I did it, Yay me! But of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t give a big THANK YOU to my co-author Grant Fritchey (b | t). Without him stepping in to help out with the “couple of chapters” as he put it the book might not have gotten finished in time. I did cut back on my community activities such as SQLSaturdays and did more local user group presentations to allow for more time to write the book, but it was worth it, after all the money was so much, NOT, and I got to use it for something nice, NOT. The award is in knowing you accomplish something most people will not in their lifetime, like that time you ran a half or full marathon, writing a book and being published on Amazon.
The book has a lot of great technical content on everything you need to know to be successful to run Query Store and utilize it. I have said before on my blog why aren’t you using it? So have a number of other people in the community, so get this book see how easy it is and start using it to improve your troubleshooting skills in 2016 or alleviate some of your workload in 2017 and up by letting it do some of the work for you so you concentrate on other more things important. It is available for pre-order here.
I did dedicate the book to my uncle who passed away earlier this year who bought my first technical books while I was in seventh grade (yes I’m that nerdy). I got a MSDOS 3.2 and QBasic book and my first database program to keep up with my sports card collection and never thought about not working computers. Of course, I had been saying I wanted to be a computer programmer since I was six so I guess it was destiny for career to take this path.
I would also like to special thank you to Kellyn Pot’Vin Gorman (b | t) for recommending me to Apress to write the book in the first place.
