Those of us in technology are very, very used to automated systems,
batch jobs, etc., all which run without human interaction (or at least,
very little). We can fall into the trap of thinking of this environment
as "real life," and I have found myself drifting there from time to
time. But then something comes along and reminds us that real life is
more than just computers, databases, and drive space warning emails.
