SQL Saturday training is free on the day, with a lunch fee of $10.00. This year, SQL Saturday Denver has a number of Pre-Conference sessions available to choose from. There is one free SQL in the City session running from 12:30 - 5:00pm, with training provided by Steve Jones.

Automated build and test processes such as continuous integration are essential to achieve the short feedback cycles that an agile development lifecycle requires. This session will demonstrate how checking in a database change with SQL Source Control can tell you whether your database business logic will remain functional and whether the upgrade process will succeed. You'll also see how a successful build will leave you with a database package that can be used in your deployment process.

Session 3 – Best Practices for Database Deployment, Steve Jones
The easiest part of any deployment is running the deployment script on production. But what have you done to prepare that script for production? Was the script tested? Is the script tightly coupled with the application code? The difference between a successful deployment and a failed or problematic deployment is all the preparation work you've done to ensure that you're deploying the right script, the right way to your production environment. This session will explore best practices that you can implement to ensure that your deployments are as successful as they can be.

Real World SSIS: A Survival Guide

Moving and transforming data can be a difficult job. Connecting to various endpoints, applying complex transformations, performing validation checks, creating an appropriate audit trail, and other tasks can make the ETL developer feel like he/she is spinning plates. Even with powerful tools such SQL Server Integration Services, designing and maintaining a proper and well-performing extraction/transformation/loading (ETL) infrastructure is a significant undertaking.
In this full-day seminar, we'll explore some common (and a few uncommon) challenges facing ETL developers, followed by practical solutions and recommended practices from the field using SQL Server Integration Services. Presented by business intelligence consultant and SQL Server MVP Tim Mitchell, this seminar brings together his 9 years of professional data management experience into 7+ hours of condensed real-world approaches to ETL challenges. SQL Server Internals from the Practical Angle
This session presented by Dmitri Korotkevitch will take place in the same venue as SQL Saturday Denver.
There are plenty of the books and resources about SQL Server internals. While they provide the great overview of how product works, they often lack the practical angle and don’t explain how to apply that knowledge to real-life scenarios. That pre-con helps to close that gap. It shows how various aspects of SQL Server Internals affect the systems and what needs to be taken into consideration during design and implementation stages.
The pre-con covers how SQL Server stores the data and works with indexes; how to design efficient indexing strategies; how different database objects types implemented internally and what are pros and cons of them; explains why do we have locking and blocking in the system and how to deal with concurrency issues and, finally, shows a few methods that can help with performance troubleshooting of the system.
