SQL Mail

  • I have a production box (2003 SP2) with SQL 2000. There are several backup jobs (full & tran) I have set-up which sends out a notification when the job is complete, sometimes the notification goes out and sometimes it doesn't. the only error message in the log is that the notfication failed to send. What could be the problem were it will send the mail out sometimes and other times it doesn't? Could it be Outlook?

  • Where do your backups live? On the SAN, on network attached storage, or ??? If they live on network attached storage, there are many possible reasons including time differences between the server and the machine the backups live on.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • The backup live on the server and then then that directory (a long with the other drives) is backup up to tape every night.

  • SQL Mail on SQL 2000 - what a headache.

Before you engage your Exchange folks I would suggest the 2 following actions:

    - reboot your server

    - drop and recreate your Outlook mail profile

    Why it works I dunno.
