After a number of years of membership of sqlservercentral where I have enjoyed reading articles, threads, etc. , even though I made few contributions myself, I am now retiring as from 31st December 2007.
This was always first email I read in the morning and I should like to thank all contributors for the enjoyment they have given me and the tips I have picked up.
Good luck to you all for the furture.

Bruce,
Congratulations and hope you've had a wonderful career!
Any great plans? Going to come back and give us some wonderful comments about how you're glad you don't have to deal with these issues anymore? 🙂

Steve,
I don't have much planned at present. I've been in fulltime employment since March 1961, and continuously with my current employer since August 1966, so initially, I'm just looking forward to chilling out. That said, there will be some disruption as we're having a conservatory constructed.
I have plenty of hobbies to keep me busy (photography, video, audio, cycling and the like - I'm currently turning some 40 plus years of slides into DVD programs, editing and burning to DVD 12 years worth of video footage, editing, cleaning up and burning to CD a lifetimes worth of LPs), so I'll still be sitting in front of a computer screen for a while yet. But as they say - a change is as good as a rest - and I'll try to limit this so as to leave time for more active pursuits.
My wife and I go ballroom dancing which is a good form of both mental and physical exercise. We'll probably increase the frequency.
We'll also make more trips to Bavaria where my wife's mother lives. I like this area, but I musn't overlook our own areas of Scotland, Wales and the West Country.
Like many other retired people I know I've got more than enough to keep me occupied, so there's no danger of me getting bored and vegitating, although a few hours with a good book in the new conservatory sounds inviting.
Regards to all
Bruce

Bruce,
Congratulations on your retirement; something tells me this Christmas will be more relaxed than any you've ever had before!
Although it does sound as if you're going to busier, with all those hobbies, in the New Year than you were at work. Anyway, I wish you all the luck in the future; enjoy your travels, enjoy your vastly available spare time and don't forget to pop back and tell us all what we've got to look forward to (even if it is a good 40 years off for me yet!). 😀

Bruce,
Enjoy it and feel free to send in some pictures if you like. Always looking for things to use in the editorial and happy to give you credit. Maybe we can sell a few and get you a nice retirement business!!
We're happy for you and if you want to send your address to me (sjones at sqlservercentral.com), I'll be happy to send a small retirement gift from SSC.

Sack it, Bruce, how did you find the excape tunnel?! I've been looking for years having been 'in the shafts' for almost as long as you but all I get is more work.
Good luck for the future and , no, I'm not envious.

Congratulations! It sounds like you are going to have a great time.
I, too, am one with lots of hobbies so I'm envious!!
However, I will remain here at my desk for now and will try to enjoy every day 😀
