quickest way to reinitialize replication?

  • currently, after a new build, we run scripts to add in replication again, and reinitialize it using the replication monitor. it takes 10-14 hours as there are many millions of rows to replicate ( and there are some network latency issues).

Im thinking there must be a quicker way, using a compressed full backup from the publisher, that is copied to the subscriber in advance?

I am away from work for the next few days so wont get access to the corporate network to perform any tests for the next few days, and would like to know the answer to this much sooner, so am hoping someone can advise if im correct in my assumption before i get back?

    thanks.

  • Back up restore with No initialization is the fasted method. Just make sure that you check the tables in the subscriber for Identity columns.
