Recovering SQL Server 2000 Database (no backup)

  • I have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise installed on a Windows 2000 server.I deleted a daabase from the Enterprise manager (right click on the db & delete). Is there anyway to recover the data?
  • With Great power comes great responsibility.

It asked you "Are you sure you want to delete this?" Right,

If you say yes, its gone

without backups I do not believe there is a way to recover.

  • No backup = No recovery.   Sorry.

  • Now that they've said that...yes you MIGHT be able to recover the data. Since deleted data really isn't, it might be able to be recovered from the disk(s). If the sectors on the disk(s) have not been overwritten yet, then the data is still there. Find a company that specializes in this and hire them to recover the data. It's usually expensive.

  • Funny you mention that.  When I was typing my response, I initially started with 'Outside of removing your hard disks and shipping them ....' but then I figured...nah.  I guess explaining ALL of the options is the right way to go...

  • A few years a ago I used an online recovery, based in the US, when someone deleted a set of sub cirectories on a server. It worked very well - BUT, I had lots of disk space so most of the several hundred files were still there. Sorry can't rember the name, search the internet - I'd recognise the name I think if I saw it again.
