Linked server query hangsup with no error message

    Al,

    I am running a query across linked servers. The Query runs fine and returns a result set. When I try to insert into a temp table, the query runs for ever and never completes.

    Has any one seen anything like this? On our development servers with the same linked sever configuration it is working fine. (I am able to get the result sent and save it in the table)

    Any help will be appreciated.

    what operating system are the boxes on, is the msdtc service configured so the two can talk?

    Both are Windows 2003 servers.

    Check this NB out http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=873160 to make sure that the two MSDTC services can talk

    Thanks to all those answered. The issues was solved as follows:

    1. DTC services on both servers were configured to run under domain accounts (they were running local accounts)

    2. The Explicit authentication between server's required was turned off.

    Then the linked queries started working.
