  • Im currently using snapshot replication and it works fine when i add/delete update in a table the result is replicated also in the subscriber but when i tried adding a view, procedure it is not replicated in the subscriber???

  • Hi Lester,

For modifications to views and procedures to be replicated, they need to be included as articles in the publication.

For new views and procedures to be replicated, these need to be added to the publication, this can be done while the publication is active and has active subscribers. Although the subscriptions will need to be reinitialised with a fresh snapshot.

    Hope that helps!

    Rob.

  • SO as you are saying i MUST manually update or add the new views and stored procedures?? it is not automatically replicated when i created it in the publisher database?? If that's the case then replication cannot synchronize 100% "automatically"

EDIT: I am not also allowed to alter or drop tables when it is used in replication. what if i need to change the table with another table? or i want to alter the column type of a table what should i do???

  • Generally replication is employed once the data structure has calmed down and isn't changed often. If you do need to alter or drop a published article, you need to remove the subscription, make the changes to the database and the publication, then resubscribe. This is if you don't make the changes often of course.

I'm not 100% sure on this next part, but I think if you use snapshot replication with non-updateable subscribers, structure changes are replicated as well. You'll have to check that out (baring in mind changes will not be replicated back to the publisher).

Just to update my last post, I tried this out and it's not the case. :Whistling:

  • Hi,

If you are using Trans or Snapshot replication it is possible to remove just the table from the replication, alter the structure and then republish that article...it's a bit of hassle but easily done. You just need to drop the subscriptions to that article then drop the article from the publication.
