For objects inside the database (e.g. stored procedures, functions, views, tables, etc...) I use the comparison tools from Redgate (SQL Compare & SQL Data Compare).
For objects (scripts) outside of SQL Server (e.g. script files) I use Beyond Compare from Scooter Software (http://www.scootersoftware.com/).
There are freeware comparison tools available, if you look for them. You can check out the different utilities available at: http://www.codeplex.com.

SQL Delta is another option. It performs alot of other things.

For me, CompareIt has been the best tool for doing visual comparisons of files.

I use WinDiff which you can get in WIndows Option Packs and came with Visual Studio 6. You can download it from MS in and SDK or support pack based on your OS here or from the makers of Com pare It here
