PhD in Computer Science

  • Hi All,

which university is best to do PhD course?

how much cost do we need to complete the course?

whether choosing 'DB' as a research topic is the best option or not. is there any limitations in choosing research title as 'DB' ? Thats what i wanted to know.

I am sure i can get some useful answers from here. 🙂

Those two only the university will be able to tell you.

What exactly are you thinking of researching on in DBs? It's a surprisingly large field with lots of advances in various areas.

  • There are **so many** things to do regarding databases that it is hard to tell from where to start.

Databases are here to stay. There are many different opinions on how to shape the future many propose re-write, some others specialize, some others maintain current tech adding features. Truth is I am sure you won't regret it.

  • There's no "best" in college. There are tiers of colleges, which are based on reputation and the networking you'll get, but for something as specific as DB research, I'm not sure there's a best.

You need to look around at different colleges and see what appeals you for your situation.

  • Sorry! A little late here.

    Thanks for all your feedback!

I would like to do some research about 'OPTIMIZER'. But frankly speaking i haven't decided what to do and the other things. Just i choosed the topic. thats it.

Will it be a good topic ? will it be a good start? if yes, can anybody refer some good book name to read about OPTIMIZER which should explain the concepts easily. Just i need some basic books name & author details.

    Steve,

I am facing some problem while opening sqlservercentral from my machine. Thats why i am conveying this message here itself instead of posting it as a seperate one.

If I open the site, it is not showing the complete screen. herewith i have attached the screenshot. you will get some idea.

I will select the URL part once again(from the address bar) and then i will press 'ENTER' button, some time it will open and show the content. But some time i have to press 'ENTER' for more than 3 times.

Actually, i will delete the cookies and offline content files each and every time, when i open SSC.

Really i feel tired to do this task each and every time.

if anything needs to be done from my side, can you guide me ? or if any problem with the server load(i am not sure but as of my knowledge more no of users may access the site parallely) can you take a look at it ?

    Thanks in advance!

Um, if you're looking to do a PhD thesis on some area of optimisers, you need to know more than a few basic concepts. Are you aware what the level of independent, original research is required for a PhD?

What university qualifications do you currently have?

If you're wanting to do postgrad research, you need to be very comfortable finding information yourself. I would suggest starting with a search on "database optimizers" on Google Scholar.

  • I think normally you should get a PhD on some extension of what you did your Masters in. It shouldn't be something you're just starting out on, it should be something you're already a "master" of, and you want to push the limits on it.

Most will require that you are in the same country for you to study there. Have you investigates student visas for countries that you're interested in studying in?

Where did you do your Masters degree and what was your topic?

If you're applying for a PhD, you'll typically need to submit a thesis proposal as part of your application process.
