It could be that your company SMTP does not allow open relay to Hotmail

Hotmail and Yahoo Mail (and gmail, for that matter) are not SMTP servers that you can connect to that way.
You should be able to send mail to them (I have database mail send my hotmail account certain alerts, for when I'm at home), but you can't send database mail from them. To = yes, From = no.

Why don't you use your local SMTP server to send mail but change the reply to from your hotmail/yahoo/gmail account through your SMTP server [if it can support this server-side].

Database Mail is an SMTP application, so you need SMTP access to a mail server to send email from it. The free versions of Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail don't offer SMTP access - you access them solely via a web client (which can technically be automated, but not with Database Mail).
If you have either a Hotmail Plus or Yahoo! Mail Plus account you can use these services via SMTP - but those are premium services you pay to subscribe to. You can find the appropriate SMTP server details on their websites.

I already posted this once today. I suggest that you get a little Unix/Linux box and put Zimbra on it. It can be a stand alone SMPT server. All DB Mail then gets sent through the Zimbra SMPT server.
I've had this solution up and running for months at a client without a hitch.
