I am trying to use the Import/Export wizard to export to a flat text file, but it does not show up in the list of types to export to.
Is this option not available any longer?

It is available in mine as "Text File".

Wow, it's not showing up on my list.
I just have Workgroup edition -- could that be the reason? (Actually, on the machine hosting Management Studio I have Developer edition. The ultimate destination database is Workgroup edition.)
Here's what's showing up in my Destination list:
MediaCatalogDB Ole DB Provider
MediaCatalogMergedDB OLE DB Provider
MediaCatalogWebDB OLE DB Provider
Microsoft Access
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Data Mining Services
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Internet Publishing
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Outlook Search
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
SQL Native Client
SQLXMLOLDDB
SQLXMLOLDDB4.0
VSEE Versioning Enlistment Manager Proxy Data Source
I can't believe they would have all these strange and esoteric destination types, and not something as simple as text file!

I've missed it more than once but at the top of the list is "Flat File Destination".

Try installing the latest MDAC (2.8 a I believe) and see if that doesn't correct the issue. May hv become unregistered or was no installed somehow.

OK ... but ... how do I do that? Where would I find it?
(Sorry .. something of a SS newbie!)

That is quite all right.
MDAC stands for Microsoft Data Access Components, it is basicaly a supply of drivers fr various data stores.
You can find links to the latest here (I did have to search)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/downloads/default.aspx
Try MDAC 2.8 SP1 ad it shoul hook you up. If no post here and let us know and someone hopefully be able to assist futher even if not me.

Thanks for the info!
It would probably help if I knew what version I was running now. I looked at the "about" on my Management Studio and here's what it said:
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.085.1117.00 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
I can't seem to translate that to the 2.x version number you gave me ... what version does this equate to, does anyone know?

Sorry don't remember the number transalation for this. There is a ComponentChecker hidden somewhere off the link I gave you that would be able to tell.

Thanks Antares -- I did download the tool and ran it, and I have version 2.8 SP1. It looks to me as if that's the latest version, so I doubt that's the problem.
Any other ideas?
