Data Dictionary Tool...

  • What tool do ya'll all use for managing a Data Diction design (ERD) and the description of fields, etc?

  • Haven't found a great one, but I haven't used Apex's tool. I'd give that a try and see if it helps you. ER/Studio and ErWin haven't worked well for me.

  • We use a combination of APex and ER/STudio - this also allows us to manage our audit trail.

  • I've been very happy with ER/Studio, but we mainly use it for documentation. All the management stuff that comes with it haven't worked out for us.

  • If all you need it for is documentation purposes, I use the system tables and output the data in an html format. If someone asks for a data dictionary, I can gen one up real quick.
