I launch SQLSErver Express 2005 install (an exe, 54 MB, downloaded from microsoft)
It extracts files and finally gives the following message
SQL Server2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework or SQLServer 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove theses components, adn the run SQL Server Setup again. for detailed instructions on unstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL SErver 2005 readme

You do have to uninstall the previous beta versions if you were running any

thanks, finally I deleted all SQL Server 2005 stuff and reinstalled SQL SErver 2000. Since I only want the tables (no stored procedures, no queries, nothing,....) it is enough for the moment. Easy and straight.forward.
But I have one more question. Might I install sQL SERVER 2005 upon VB .NET Express 2005 (not Visual Studio, just VB Express)? thanks

You don't need Visual Studio for installing SQL Server 2005. It installs some components of Visual Studio 2005: Analysys Services, Integration Services and Reporting Services projects.

It is OK to do new things not on the first try. I had a blue screen with STOP error myself the first time I tried.
