Linked Servers

    Hi Guys,

    I am currently adding linked servers to each of my servers. When I added a linked server to one of my 2005 machines and ran a query and it returned results.

    When I added a linked server to one of my 2000 machines and run a query, then it gives me the following error:

    Login failed for user 'dbareport'

    I don't think that the password is wrong since I have been doing it on several servers.

    Can anyone pls help?

    First thing to check is that dbareport actually has access to the database. Is the server online?

    dbareport is the username

    check your user has a valid login on the correct databsae on sql 2005 , make sure the 2005 is running in mixed mode. ( e.g. can you login to the sql 2005 box as your user - not as the linked server ? )

    Possibly sounds silly but have you run the 2005 surface config to allow remote connections?

    Hi there

    thanks, the problem was solved, turns out that I received the wrong password. I have another problem though, on one of my servers, I have added a linked server, but for some reason where I run my query or try to access the tables on the linked server, it just hangs, nothing happens.

    Can anyone pls help.
