Licanse Management and security

  • I currently use Safenet Keys to do license management and provide a little security.  I have individual users with access rights defined.  What's a better way to insure only authorized users and not shared users are using the application and getting access to the data.  Should I be monitoring who is signed on and which system they are coming from?  The keys are just causing too many problems of their own and creating extra work.  Thanx

  • Not sure what you mean? Can you provide more details how the keys are used?

  • The Keys are USB devices that are encrypted and work with SW inside the program.  The program will not go past the Login screen if the key is not plugged in or will close if the key is removed during use.  We have one key per user, therefore only valid licensed users can use the program.  I want to accomplish the same thing and these have worked (from a user standpoint) on other programs I have used.  For a developer, they leave a lot to be desired.

I have thought about removing them and having a separate login access program and passing the user name, computer name or some other local info and then checking it against a list of registered users.  As client list grows, seemed like this might get into a management problem if users changed systems.

    Thanx

  • If you're talking a customer who has purchased your product and you want to ensure they don't violate their # of licenses, you're likely going to need a physical device like this if you want it to be portable. If you're talking about an application used internally, Windows authentication is sufficient.
