Our company plans to split dba responsibilities in to two areas.
One area will primarily function as support of the server and SQL Server engine. The other area will provide support for database specific issues. We realize that by granting DBAs 'dbo' use to all DBs, that they will be restricted to perform database work only, and cannot have too much impact on the server. But what is the best way to grant privilege to the other team (server support) and restrict their ability to do database work? If they are given sa authority, then they can do anything; including database work.
Also, can anyone point me to documentation which specifies what SQL can be executed by dbo, and what SQL can be executed by sa and other server roles? If there is such a doc, it could act as a guide for which group performs database specific duties, and which group performs server specific duties.
Thanks in advance for the help.
