Error migrating from 6.5 to 2000

  • I have inhereted a SQL 6.5 server running on an NT 4.0 sp4 machine.  When I attempted to migrate to a SQL 2000 server running on Win 2000 sp4 machine I encountered a known Microsoft bug 364258.  The suggested workaround is to create a win 2000 machine running 6.5 and upgrade from there.

I currently do not have the machine resources to do this, does anybody know of any other work arounds for the problem?  Thanks.

  • 1. upgrade the NT4 machine to WIN2K before migrating the databases

    OR

    2. uninstall SQL8 from your WIN2K machine and install SQL6.5, then migrate the databases, then upgrade from 6.5 to 8.
