I installed SQL2005 on a Win2003 test server. That all went fine, after reboot I realized that I did not pick the options to install the Management tools and BOL. I picked them but the install fails and it says to check the logs. I cannot find what logs they are referring to. I did a *.log and the SQL Server ones all say success. Any ideas ?

Markus,
check:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\summary.txt
and next to it Files folder with logs.
Read the ones that correspond Client Tools installation time I guess.

Hmmm. Yes check the logs located at %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\log\. The other thing that may be going on is you installed something from the Tools.MSI which means now you have to run in maintenance mode to add additional components. To see what's installed go to "Add or Remove Programs" (From the control panel), scroll down to the "SQL Server 2005" entry, select it and press the "Change" button. In the middle of the dialog you should see a section title "SQL Server 2005 common components", under this heading you may see an entry called "Workstation Components" if so, select the radio button for this item and press the "Next >" button, this will launch the installer in maintenance mode and allow you to add components to the installation. Follow the dialogs along - you'll get to one that asks if you want to "Change Installed Components" or "Remove Microsoft SQL Server" - be sure to select "Change".
If you don't see "Workstation Components" in the ARP dialog then you need to rerun setup.exe from the original location.
Cheers,
Dan

OK, I opened a ticket with Microsoft on this issue. I simply took CD #1, copied it to the server and ran setup.exe. works fine for db server. The CD's are labeled #1 and #2 but there is no label on the CD as to the contents nor do the contents look different. Come to find out CD #1 is the db stuff and CD # 2 are the tools stuff. The workaround is to copy CD #1 to a folder called Server, copy CD #2 to folder called Tools.... then run up setup.exe... it will then call the tools correctly. They have received serveral calls about this and are forming official documentation on this.
Note: If you use the CD's to install with it will call CD # 2 as designed.
