SQL Enterprise Manager

  • Just a quick general question....I have a trial edition of MS-SQL Server 2000 installed running IIS 6.0. I am thinking about purchasing an authentic copy, however I am not sure which version I really need. Please don't point me to the Microsoft site...I know it exists.....I am curious about 2 things in particular.

    1. IS the SQL Enterprise Manager on all of the versions of SQL Server? I love the GUI interface, because I am not a programmer, however I am an old PAradox person and leared qbe!!!

    2. If I am hosting a web-site on IIS6.0, which version do I need. I will use SQL to store member demographics, credit card and financial information...nothing that is too terribly CPU intensive....so I am confused as to which version I will need. I don't anticipate too much volume in the first year or two, but long-term I may need more capabilites.

The reason for asking is to make sure a local ISP isn't selling me something I don't need.

    thanks

  • I've used the SQL Enterprise Manager as far back as 6.5.  I believe IIS 6.0 is compatible with SQL Server 2000.  Remember to use the latest service packs when installing SQL Server 2000.  However Yukon (latest release of SQL Server) is coming (not sure when though) that's something to think about.

Also remember to check your SQL Server setup properly in order for your .NET applications(I'm assuming this piece) to run properly.  Hope that helps

    Thanks,

  • 1.  Enterprise Mangager is part of all editions of sql server 2000, except DeskTop Edition.

SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition or Personal Edition is all you really need.
