This link http://www.sqlservercentral.com/scripts/contributions/640.asp provides a scrip to create an Access 2000 database.
Can anyone help me change the script to create an Access 97 database or alternatively advise an alternative way.
As I will be creating tables, zipping etc I will probably do this in DTS

Why not just have an empty database out there which you can first copy and then put whatever you want in it?

Yes that's what I concluded I should do. However it does mean when moving the DTS package from one Server to another I have to move the template access db. Not a major issue I know but it would have been good to learn how to do this the hard way.

Hmmm. I would go with copying a blank. It's guaranteed to work, it will be compatible with any version of SQL ever, and you never know when something might break DTS. And if you think DTS can't break, just remember what happened when they released a "service pack" for Reporting Services and broke an awful lot of stuff.
I'm going to have to check, but are you certain a blank 2000 MDB can't be read by 97? I don't remember when they broke base compatibility. I know Access XP & 2003 use 2000 as their standard.

I have Access 97, 2000 and XP on the development server and confirm that Access 97 can not read an Access 2000 or XP db.
But ... you are right and I shall probably stick with copying although as I already extensively manipulate Excel from SQL Server your warnings are probably too late. And in the case of Excel there is no other option if I want nicely formatted spreadsheets with subtotals etc etc.
