Running Windows XP and SQL Server 2000.
When I try to open Enterprise Manager on my pc, my pointer turns to an hour glass and then back to an arrow, Enterprise Manager will finally open approximate three minutes later. Much too long to wait for an application to open.
While I am waiting for EM to open, if I look at my task manager, MMC is there using memory, but no CPU usage (if that matters).
Please help.

Are the databases set to auto-close?

Thank you for your response.
No they are not. I think the issue either started when I installed mySql on the PC or after I changed my network logon. I tried opening EM and it took a long time, plus all of my registered servers were gone. Since then I tried restoring XP to a date prior to the MySQL install date, uninstalling and reinstalling SQL, etc..
I did see something on Microsoft's site about XP and EM having a problem after changing a password, but it says to just install the latest XP service pack (which was already done).

Can't help you with that, I never saw that problem or read about it.

You say <quote>when I installed mySql <end quote>
Is that true? You are having this problem with mySQL????? This site is really for Microsoft SQL Server. You might want to try and find a site for mySQL which is a different product.
If you really meant SQL Server, that's different. If it is SQL Server, check your Windows Event Viewer Logs for any related error messages. Also, can you connect to the database(s) via Query Analyzer?

My problem is with Enterprise Manager.. it just so happened that the problem was realized after two known changes occured on my PC. 1. I installed mySql and 2. My network password was changed. Maybe those changes had something to do with it, maybe not. Luckily Enterprise Manager still opens, it just takes at least three minutes between the time I launch the application and the time it opens. It is a little inconvenient.
I will check out the event viewer, good suggestion.
No problem connecting with or opening Query Analyzer.
Thanks.

I think your problem is probably a timeout trying to open a database in the EM tree
Once you get EM open use Tools/Options and first check the Server Registration Info bit on the general tab is correct for you - e.g if it is set to "Read from remote" and that remote is not accessible any more (either no longer exists or you pass is now wrong) you would get a long delay opening and then no servers shown when it does open. If that seems OK check the advanced tab and try unticking the "open console tree to last active node" option
