Anyone applied the SQL Server 2000 SP 4(Beta)

  • Besides SQL Server 2000 SP 4(Beta), has anyone ever tried and used the SQL Server 2005 Beta version ?

Are there any problems faced ?

  • SQL Server 2005 is currently beta software so it is bound to be buggy, and it is. There have been literally thousands of issues/bugs raised with the beta releases up till now so far more than can be mentioned here. These range from major things like "XYZ produces the wrong results" to minor thnigs like "The keyboard scheme is different from QA in SQL Server 2000" and everything in between...

However, Barnes &Noble are currently running SQL Server 2005 in production for a non-critical system.

Can you be more specific in what you're asking? Which beta version are you talking about?

  • Currently we are running a current version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 at the patch level of 3a. I am getting hold of the BETA version of 4.

I am not sure to apply this patchset 4 and whether it will cause problems if we next time move forward to upgrade to YUKON, SQL Server 2005 ?

  • Ah right, I understand now.

    Sorry, can't help you though!

  • I've presently have it installed on a number of servers. 3 test servers with single instances with various vendor applications. One server (my DBA test server) with 2 instances, and my production MSX server. I've got applications tasks, maintenance plans executing normally on all. However we do not use replication nor DTS. But for the last 30-490 days, nary an issue one. At our site we'll move to SP4 on about 1./2 of our 19 servers within 30 days of GA (we;ve already contacted just about all of our vendors and thy've given us the 'thumbs up'.

  • I've applied SP4 tp our standalone test network but now find that I can't backup model db.  Anybody else seen this ?
