I installed Enterprise Manager on a client PC for adminstration. When I registered the server it was very slow to authenicate. When I open the tree to view the databases etc...., it is very very slow and sometimes locks up the PC. It will eventually show the tree, but only after about 3-4 minutes of wait time.
I have the latest version of MDAC, and ODBC appears to be good!
Any suggestions?

You can check the following for starters:
System/Application/Security event logs for errors when you register and when you connect
Workstation:
NIC card setting - minimum 10 MB/Half Duplex
Have the network folks check the switch port to make sure the settings there match your workstation.
SQL Server:
NIC card setting - minimum 100 MB/Full Duplex
Have the network folks check the switch port to make sure the settings there match your SQL Server.
When you register the server is it by 'short name', FQDN or IP Address.
Is there a noticable speed difference when registering/connecting by any of the above ?

It also depends on how busy the server is.

Your version of SQL-DMO can make a big difference, at least load SQL Server 2000 SP3 on the client machine to get a later version of sqldmo.dll.
