After Upgrade SQL Server 2000 over SQL Server 7.0 Standard Edition on a box, SQL Server Agent not starting.
The below error message logged on Windows Event Viewer.
SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server '(local)'; SQLServerAgent cannot start).
Appreciate any help on this.

Did you also switch service-accounts ?
did you kick out builtin-administrators ? If yes, check sqlagent is not running on localsystem !
Did you have a blanc sa-password and change it during upgrade : Check if you also changed this for sqlagent ?

Hi,
Pls. refresh the service acount passward for both mssqlserver and agent services.and then try u will come out with the success.
Pls. revert back after doing so.
