Have a look here
http://www.sqlsecurity.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=37
and compare this to the result of SELECT @@VERSION to see it you miss a patch for SQL Server 7.0

thanks! nice page.
well, i´m using one of the first versions.. 7.00.623!
is it recommend that i upgrade my server ?? will it break my server/system ?
i doesn´t have one machine to test, only the server itself !
thank you.
btw, i just posted on the wrong forum, can i move it ? or do i post another one (general - sql) ?

Only moderators can move it. But it's okay for now. Don't start another thread.
Carefully answering your question. In most cases it is better to apply the latest service pack. But I don't have experience with 7.0, so you might want to wait for someone here who has done this and can share his experience.

Frank,
i just uppdated, got some troubles.
first, got some script error, was unable to process, server start getting users errors.. restarted the system, tried to resume the setup, error again.
tried to resume again, got that msg: you dont have sql 7.00 installed on your system.
man, at that point i started to cry
but, i just opened the page (asp) and it was ok, checked the version (select @@version) and it was on the last one (sp4)...
veryyyyyyyyy strange, so, i´m happy, dunno what went wrong, but... go figure it out.. its ok fine by me.
you know what happend ?
thanks

I think, I've mentioned, that I don't have experience with 7.0, right?
Honestly, no clue what happened.

I have installed every patch level on a SQL 7 machine and you just occasionally run into mysterious issues sometimes. Just make sure you do a full backup before the patch always and do it only when you have set aside a good troubleshooting window. This goes for anything you are patching. We many times will ghost the whole system if we have storag space for a ghost image before we actually apply any patch and then many times we just cross our fingers an pray it all goes well.
