Backup / Restore entire Instance?

  Is it possible to back up an entire instance of sql server and restore that instance on a different server?

  Sorry if this is a lame question - I have minimum experience backing up and restoring databases, but not entire instances.

  Problem:

  A coworker of mine upgrade a machine from SBS to Win Server 2003.  The SQL MSDE installed had a non-strong password and now we can't connect to a) do any sort of administrative tasks b)change the password.

  Anybody have any suggestions?

  Is the built-in administrator group still part of the sysadmin role??

  you could change the authentication method in the registry and relogin that way, change, reset the sa password and you'd be good to go (IIRC).
