Unable to load sql server oledb provider resource dll. The application cannot continue

  • I have a small vb6 program running on our server.  The program

basically checks on other applications over the network to see if they

are still "alive" through the use of SQL which is installed on this

same server.  This program had been running fine for several months

without error.  Then one day our server group took down the server

,updated/installed nortons (they don't recall which), and put on a few

security patches.  After the server came back up the program worked

fine for ~9 hours and then had this error:

"Unable to load sql server oledb provider resource dll.  The

    application cannot continue."

I came in that night and restarted the application.  I have not had

anymore problems with it since then (~2 months).  My feeling is that

nortons had something to do with it, but I can't confirm that.  Any

ideas what the root to this was?

  • Check the versions of sqloledb.dll and sqloledb.rll files, if they don't match replcae them with proper versions.

Also, make sure that you have enough permissions on both these files.
