Database Backup

  • Hi

I currently need to make an exact, working duplicate of a database on SQL server 2k (including all data not just table structure).

Ive had a play around with enterprise manager and read a few articles on replication, but cant seem to find any way of doing so.

Unfortunately we only have one sql server machine so the copy database wizard doesnt work.

Can any body give me any ideas?

    Thanks

    Gareth

  • Sounds like you answered your own question in the subject line

What you want to do is do a full backup of the DB in question, then create a new empty DB and restore you're previous backup into it.

This is fairly bread and butter stuff and is really well documented in BOL, however, feel free to ask for more help if you can't get enough info out of BOL.

  • DOH!

i can honestly say ive never had to restore a db from backup, so didnt realise that you could select another databases backup.

    Thanks all the same though.

    Gareth.

  • No problem
