Moving a Sharepoint DB

  Hi guys (and gals he hastily added),

  I've been asked whether I can move around 10 sharepoint databases from one server to another and was wondering whether there's any gotcha's that I should be aware of (I already know all about backups and detaching and reattaching ).

  My question really relates to my lack of experience with Sharepoint (ie nill ), currently the last characters of the existing DBs are the siteID number in IIS.  When migrating to another server there's no guarentee that the SiteID numbers will be the same so I'm wondering if we should recreate the sites on the new server, let sharepoint create the new databases automatically and then just restore the backup into that.  Will that work or can I just create the DBs from the backup and point sharepoint at that instead (whichever is the best/will work).

  Does anyone here have experience with sharepoint and/or can you post a link so I can look at it myself.
