HI All,
I am trying to conect to a test database using Quest Spotlight on SQL Server. From EM I connect as sa, I then set up the connection to the test server as sa but get the following error. Any bright ideas as to why?
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] xp_regread() returned error 5, 'Access is denied'
Thanks
Hope this helps...

At a guess, SQL Server doesn't have access to read the registry.
What account are the services running under? Are the any policy settings explicitly restricting access to the registry?
Have you used Spotlight before?

SQL Server has full access and I am using spotlight in prod with zero issues. Only seems to be here. But then I have removed the builtin/administrator from here...which could more than likely be the issue
Hope this helps...

In case anyone needs to know how to resolve this (I did), this is the answer:
BUG: You may receive an "Access is denied" error message when a query calls an extended stored procedure after you upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887165/)
