Changing Default Log File location in Enterprise Manager?

  • Hi,

    MSSQL 2000/sp3

We're moving the location of our T-logs to a different disk than our data files. I'm trying to set the default data directory within Enterprise Manager  (Instance Properties > Database Settings > New database default location).

Each time I enter the new location, select OK, then re-look at the properties, the box has been cleared? Any thoughts?

    Many thanks. Jeff

  • Shouldn't you restart the server?

  • Strange. In normal circumstances it should work.

If you created DB with the CREATE DATABASE statement,  Change/add the following registry keys:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer

    VALUE: DefaultData

    VALUE: DefaultLog

It should help, but be carefull, because of wrong change in registry there is possibility for need to reinstall your OS

  • Very weird ... it worked using another server (os = win server 2003) .. no reboot required ...

    Many thanks. Jeff
