OK, I have some questions about licensing of SQL Server 2000.
I'm currently with a web host and want drop the monthly expense for having SQL Server 2000 on my web server by investing in my own copy.
1. Is it possible to buy a used version of SQL Server 2000 on EBay and transfer the license to me? Is this legal or allowed by Microsoft? If so, what must I have with it? The box with hologram or is the license and genuine CDs enoug? How do you transfer a license?
2. Can I legal or legitimately buy an OEM version and install on my server?
3. What is SQL Server 2000 Workgroup edition and can I use that on a webserver to serve web pages. I know about the memory and CPU limitations but couldn't find any info about the usage in a web application.
Thanks in advance for your help!

1. I think this is OK, but I can't be sure. If someone had a real license and wanted to give it up, I think this should be allowed because it's not "bundled" with a computer as Windows usually is.
Check here: http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/userights/ProductPage.aspx?pid=125
2. I don't think there are OEM verions. you would be a retail license.
3. There is no Workgroup edition. To serve web pages to anon visitors, you need a CPU license for SQL Server or you might be able to run MSDE, but you'd have load limitations.

No workgroup edition? It became available in April. Take a look at the table on this page:

The OEM version of SQL Server 2000 apparently comes pre-installed on servers bought from OEMs. If you buy a server with it installed, you still get the CD's and license.
